Common Questions

What preparers ask.

Do I need an EFIN before I apply?

Not to apply. If you don't have one yet, we'll walk you through the IRS e-file application and what it requires. Timing matters here — EFIN applications are not same-week approvals, so earlier in the year is far better than December.

I've never prepared returns professionally. Is this for me?

The network takes on both new and experienced preparers, and training starts at the beginning for those who need it. What we ask is that you're willing to learn due diligence properly — that's the part that protects your clients and your license to keep doing this.

Is this a franchise? Do I use your brand?

No. You operate under your own business name. Idea Tax Pro provides the software, bank relationships, training, and support behind you — the clients are yours.

What does it cost?

Software and bureau fees depend on your expected volume and which bank products you enroll in. We go through the numbers on the info call before any enrollment form comes out.

When should I start?

Off-season. Setup, EFIN, training, and marketing all want lead time, and every year someone calls in early January hoping to be filing by the twentieth. Summer and fall starts have far better first seasons.

Not sure yet? Book the info call before applying. It's a conversation about your situation, not a pitch with a deadline attached.
